Palay Sufficiency Outlook: First Quarter 2010 DA Performance Report

In 2009, the Department of Agriculture targeted palay production to hit 17.8 million metric tons (MT), up from 16.8 million MT in 2008. With 2009’s actual production at only 16.3 million MT, it was 8.7 per cent off the original target. The DA attributed the shortfall to typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng that hit the country last year.
