Background of the Organization
MODE stands for MANAGEMENT and ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
for EMPOWERMENT. Incorporated on April 27, 1992 under
Philippine laws as non-stock, non-profit organization, MODE
is established as an independent resource institute
primarily engaged in the management of change and
development. MODE particularly addresses the growing demands
for assistance of other development agencies and peoples’
organizations in their socio-economic endeavors.
The founders of MODE share origins in peasant education and
organizing, agrarian reform, and rural development work.
Most have had experiences in working within or in
association with the social action apostolate or rural
development mission of the Christian churches. They also
share common skills in research and policy advocacy;
education and training, communication work, rural
organizing, coalition building and project development and
consultancy.
MODE is primarily accountable to its Board of Trustees. It
is also accountable to its international and local partners,
the NGO community at large and the peoples’ organizations in
general, especially towards sustaining the tract record of
diligence, determination, service and commitment to the poor
and marginalized that guides and motivates most development
workers in the Philippines.
VISION
MODE envisions progressive local and national economies
that carry out the principles of class and gender equity,
ecological and financial sustainability, people’s
empowerment and respect for human rights.
MISSION
MODE is an independent resource and development
institution that serves the rural sector in the management
of change and development, is committed to facilitate the
advancement of a comprehensive strategy and to contribute to
the building of vibrant local economies and social systems
in the rural sector that serve the goals of poverty
eradication, equity and sustainability.
As a facilitator in the process of social change, MODE
together with other progressive NGOs in the Philippines,
shares the restlessness and thirst for justice, peace and
equality in our country and our world. MODE therefore will
strive to continue its track record as generator of
cutting-edge and provocative ideas in the field of social
change.
MODE is defined however, not only by its programs and
strategies or its so-called “products”. Its critical
engagement with social realities and its commitment to the
change process includes its readiness and flexibility to
“CHANGE ITSELF” and adapt to new situations and events when
necessary. This it does by summing up its experiences and
lessons in development work and sharing these lessons with
the development community, as part of its strategy of
mainstreaming and integration.
